News: Berding 3D Scanning Introduces Services with Free Holiday
STL Files
Milford, Ohio, December 16 - - Berding 3D Scanning, LLC,
a reverse engineering and laser scanning services company,
announced that it is introducing its services with complimentary
downloads of holiday oriented STL files. The Santa Claus and
reindeer files may be used for rapid prototyping or CNC machining.
The traditional Santas and stylized reindeer first appeared
as handcrafted figures. Using its Minolta Vivid 910 laser
scanner, Berding captured the physical form of these figures
to generate a point cloud — comprised of millions of
data points — of the surface geometry of each item.
To generate the polygonal model (STL file), the company relied
on PolyWorks software. For design modification, analysis or
inspection, PolyWorks also generates NURB surfaces for importing
into 3D CAD solid and surface modeling packages.

Company Overview
Berding 3D Scanning provides reverse engineering
and laser scanning services for the efficient and
accurate capture of 3D digital data from physical forms.
Increasingly, design, analysis and manufacturing technologies
rely on 3D CAD data. We help companies to develop this data for
complex, organic or freeform shapes so that time, cost and quality
can be improved with the use of the advanced engineering and
manufacturing technologies.
Design, Documentation, Analysis, Visualization and Manufacturing
Industrial design, product development and manufacturing often
find that older products are not defined in 3D CAD or that the
manufactured product varies from the original design. With our non-contact,
laser scanning technologies, a precise representation of these parts is
delivered as a polygonal model (STL file), NURB surfaces model or solid model.
Each of these formats enables you to revise, analyze or document the design;
create prototypes and patterns; or manufacture parts, assemblies and products.
Berding 3D Scanning also work with the arts and sciences. In these applications,
the likelihood of handcrafted, highly contoured, freeform surfaces is high, which
is an ideal application for 3D laser scanning. In each instance, the accuracy
and precision of our scanning process and file preparation preserves the subtle
nuances that are critical to your sculpted item or archeological find.
Processing Scan Data
Art and science are not only industries that we serve, when combined,
they describe laser scanning well. The physical act of scanning is pure science.
However, the experience and effort required for processing the scan data
is a blend of both art and science.
While the process of converting laser scanner output (point cloud data)
to CAD files can be difficult and time consuming, our clients would never know it.
Our expertise in preparing, managing and manipulating large digital files makes the
process quick, efficient and transparent to our customers. Our output is your 3D data,
which is available in STL, DXF, IGES, STEP or native 3D CAD solid formats.
Mobile and Portable for Onsite Scanning Services
For those scanning projects where the object is unmovable
or impractical to ship, Berding 3D Scanning offers onsite
services. Our scanning professionals will travel to your facility
to capture the 3D definition of your tools, dies, manufacturing
floor or building. With the capture speed of our scanning
systems, we will be in and out before you know it so that
we don’t take away your most precious asset: time.
The Berding Difference
What makes Berding 3D Scanning unique is our background in
scanning for architecture, civil engineering and surveying
applications. Through our sister company, Berding
Surveying, we have years of experience in long-range,
large format scanning and digital file preparation. We build
on this experience for our engineering and industrial scanning
services. The relationship also gives our customers access
to both short-range scanning for product development and long-range
scanning for large items like facility layouts.
Our scanning services are completed with professionalism, responsiveness
and quality. As a professional services company, we understand that you need your
job done right and on time. To validate this claim, we invite you to talk to our current customers.
